Today, as part of the mundane little chores of day-to-day life, I emptied my mailbox. To my astonishment …

On Sunday, 13 November, my new song, In Flanders Now, will be premiered at the 10 a.m. Remembrance Service at the Church of the Ascension, Hamilton (corner of John Street South and Forest Avenue), Ontario. It is a setting of a very moving poem by Edna Jacques which was written in 1920 in response to the well-known “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae. It will be performed by Lara Housez (soprano) and John Laing (piano). The service music will also include “Pie Jesu” (Faure’s Requiem), “Nimrod” by Elgar, and “St. Anne” fugue by Bach.
After a splendid performance by the John Laing Singers on Sunday, May 1st, 2011, an article by Leonard Turnevicius appeared in the Hamilton Spectator. He writes a little of my life with the John Laing Singers.
